CREATING NEW JOBS – WITHOUT RAISING TAXES OR INCREASING SPENDING
John has a plan to help small businesses – not big government – create new jobs without raising taxes or increasing spending. Analysis of the plan found it would create 6.2 million jobs over two years – including 246,000 new jobs right here in Ohio. By way of comparison, more than 3 million jobs have been lost since the trillion-dollar “stimulus” was signed into law.
Boehner’s plan would give small businesses a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income and let them band together in associations to buy health insurance more cheaply, increase businesses’ ability to recover current losses by re-filing prior tax returns, and provide immediate tax relief for working families.

LOWERING HEALTH CARE COSTS FOR FAMILIES & SMALL BUSINESSES
Health care is already too expensive and a costly government takeover would only make it worse.
One of John’s top priorities is to help lower health care costs for families and small businesses without raising taxes, adding to the deficit, or putting Washington politicians in between doctors and patients.
As a former small business owner, John is in a unique position to address this problem. He supports reforms that will break down barriers that prevent small businesses from providing affordable, high quality care; that rein in junk lawsuits that drive up costs; and that make it easier for Americans to get the coverage they need — and keep it.

LIBERATING AMERICA FROM FOREIGN OIL
John believes we need an “all of the above” strategy to liberate America from its dependence on foreign oil, lower gas prices, and promote a healthy environment.
John advocates expanding environmentally safe drilling and production of American-made energy in the arctic coastal plane, deep ocean energy zones, and the Mountain West. He supports increasing production while taking advantage of clean and reliable sources like emissions-free nuclear power, hydroelectric, Ohio’s abundant next-generation coal, and other alternative sources of energy. And he wants to cut the red tape that prevents the building of new refineries and provide tax incentives to Americans who “go green” and make their homes, cars, and businesses more energy efficient.

CURBING GOVERNMENT SPENDING, GETTING CONTROL OF THE DEBT
These are difficult times for Ohio families – rising prices, high unemployment, and a government that is more focused on spending, taxing, and borrowing than on policies that create new jobs.
That’s why John Boehner is fighting to curb government spending, cut taxes to help create new jobs, and get control of the national debt. The budget supported by Boehner would rein in spending, reform our biggest entitlement programs, and end the bailouts. The budget would freeze all non-defense, non-veterans’ health care spending for five years, and then allow it grow modestly after that. And it would create a simple, two-tiered tax code that would let Americans file their taxes on a post card.
As Boehner says, “We have a budget that spends less, does not raise taxes, borrows less, creates real jobs in America by allowing the American people to keep more of what they earn.”

DEFENDING OHIO FARMERS AND AGRICULTURE
John has been a consistent advocate for free markets, fair trade, and lower taxes — and Buckeye State farmers have responded with their consistent support.
Ohio agriculture is a $68 billion industry, with one in every six Ohioans deriving his or her livelihood from an agriculture-related job. Scores of Ohio’s 73,000 farms lie in the Eighth Congressional District, which is why John’s record and experience on the House Agriculture Committee is so important.
Boehner helped write the Freedom to Farm Act and has led the charge to eliminate the Death Tax. And he has fought against the Democrats’ national energy tax which would devastate the agriculture industry and raise costs on the rural areas of the Eighth District.
John takes great pride in fighting for what’s in the best interest of Ohio farmers and their families. It has been a top priority for him since he arrived in Congress in 1991, and it remains a top priority as he continues his service on Capitol Hill.
PROTECTING AMERICA, DEFEATING OUR TERRORIST ENEMIES
John Boehner is fighting to make sure our armed forces have the resources they need in a timely manner. The last thing soldiers and veterans deserve is for Congress to hold their funding hostage to inside-the-beltway politics. He has called on the president to allow General McChrystal to testify to Congress about our challenges and options in Afghanistan, and is a cosponsor of the Keep Terrorists Out of America Act which would prevent terrorists housed at Guantanamo Bay from being transferred or released into American communities.
Boehner believes defending America and providing our brave men and women with the tools they need to defeat our terrorist enemies is the most solemn duty of the federal government.
SECURING OUR BORDERS & ENFORCING OUR LAWS
John Boehner wants to enact a strong immigration reform bill that secures our borders and puts a premium on strict enforcement of our immigration laws.
John is trying to force Congress to act on the Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement Act (H.R. 4088), bipartisan legislation aimed at strengthening border security and ensuring that employers verify their workers are legal. And he fought efforts by the Democrat-led Congress to cut funding for the Secure Fence Act and has pushed for other additional resources for federal and state authorities that will help strengthen border patrol efforts.
Above all else, John believes the success of our country depends on newcomers obeying the law, assimilating into American society by learning English, and embracing our common identity as Americans.
IMPROVING EDUCATION FOR EVERY CHILD
John believes that every child deserves a shot at a high quality education and has authored legislation to back it up.
John is a strong voice for parent choice and local control of our education dollars. On his watch as Chairman of the House Education & the Workforce Committee, Congress passed legislation bringing real reform and accountability to our schools. In fact, the No Child Left Behind Act was signed into law at Hamilton High School, a symbol of John’s commitment to improving education for our children.
Boehner has also played a key role in crafting legislation providing more Americans access to higher education and job training programs. His College Access & Opportunity Act would improve the Pell Grant program by allowing students to receive Pell Grant aid year-round and repeal the federal rule that needlessly limits the amount of Pell Grant aid a student attending a very low-cost school may receive.
REBUILDING FAMILIES’ RETIREMENT, COLLEGE, & PERSONAL SAVINGS
John has a record of making workers’ retirements more secure – he led a bipartisan group of lawmakers in passing the first overhaul of our nation’s pension laws in more than thirty years: the Pension Protect Act.
The Pension Protection Act fixed outdated pension rules that no longer serve the interests of workers and retirees who are counting on their savings to be there when they retire.
Now Boehner is cosponsoring the Savings Recovery Act, legislation that would help Americans quickly rebuild their retirement, college, and personal savings.
John also wants to fix Social Security so we can keep our promise to tomorrow’s workers and retirees – a key part of the Republican budget solution he supports. His goal is to give workers greater choice and control over their financial futures and to preserve Social Security now and for generations to come.

GIVING AMERICA 3 DAYS TO READ THE BILLS
Several major pieces of legislation have been passed by Congress without having been read by lawmakers or the public, including the trillion-dollar “stimulus” and the “cap and trade” national energy tax. John Boehner wants to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Boehner is leading an effort to force Speaker Pelosi to post all bills online for at least 72 hours before a vote by Congress – that way both Americans and Congress have time to read them and understand their costs and consequences.
