LOWERING GAS PRICES, LIBERATING AMERICA FROM DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL

John believes we need an "all of the above" strategy to help lower gas prices and liberate America from its dependence on foreign oil.

John has been a strong advocate for environmentally safe drilling and production of American-made energy in the arctic coastal plane and deep ocean energy zones. He supports increasing production while taking advantage of clean and reliable sources like nuclear power and next-generation coal, hydroelectric, and other alternative sources of energy. And he wants to cut the red tape that prevents the building of new refineries and provide tax incentives to Americans who "go green" and make their homes, cars, and businesses more energy efficient.

As House Republican Leader, John is working every single day to hold accountable the obstructionists in Congress who refuse to act on high fuel costs. With gas prices soaring to $4 a gallon, the time for John's "all of the above" energy reform plan is now.

RESTORING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, CUTTING THE PORK

John wants to restore fiscal responsibility in Washington by reining in spending and balancing the federal budget by 2012 without raising taxes.

John believes we can reduce the size of government by making it more efficient and transparent while eliminating duplicative or wasteful programs. He wants to prohibit federal spending from growing faster than the economy – except in time of war or national emergency – and supports an immediate ban on taxpayer-funded "earmarks". John is a longtime opponent of the earmark process and believes that no Member of Congress should have the power to anonymously spend your tax dollars on unaccountable pet projects.

LOWERING TAXES FOR FAMILIES, SMALL BUSINESSES

John is fighting for lower taxes on Ohio families and small businesses facing increasing food prices, rising health care costs, and gas prices that are nearly $4 per gallon.

Unfortunately, there are those in Congress determined to raise taxes to pay for more wasteful Washington spending. John has led the fight against these tax hikes, and supports making the tax code more family-friendly by reforming the child tax credit and lowering taxes on retirement benefits. He also supports a plan to create a new and simple two-tiered flat tax system that can be filed on one page.

TAKING CARE OF AMERICA'S FARMERS

John has been a solid and constant advocate for free markets, fair trade, and lower taxes, and Buckeye State farmers have responded with their consistent support.

Ohio agriculture is a $68 billion industry, with one in every six Ohioans deriving his or her livelihood from an agriculture-related job. Scores of Ohio's 73,000 farms lie in the Eighth Congressional District, which is why John's record and experience with the House Agriculture Committee is so important. While in Congress, he helped write the Freedom to Farm Act and has led the charge to eliminate the Death Tax.

John takes great pride in fighting for what's in the best interest of Ohio farmers and their families. It has been a top priority for him since he arrived in Congress in 1991, and it remains a top priority as he continues his service to the Eighth District on Capitol Hill.

DEFENDING AMERICA, DEFEATING AL QAEDA

John believes our soldiers and intelligence agencies need all of the tools necessary to keep America safe and win the war on terror.

John is fighting to provide our troops and intelligence agencies a modern and workable terrorist surveillance law that provides timely intelligence on terrorists worldwide and accurate information for our commanders on the ground. He has fought to ensure that America's generals are making battlefield decisions – not the 535 Members of Congress. And he is determined to provide our armed forces the resources they need in a timely manner. The last thing soldiers and veterans need – or deserve – is for Congress to hold their funding hostage to inside-the-beltway politics.

Defending America and providing our brave men and women with the tools they need to defeat our terrorist enemies is the most solemn duty of the federal government.

SECURING OUR BORDERS, ENFORCING OUR LAWS

John wants to enact a strong immigration reform bill that secures our borders and puts a premium on strict enforcement of our immigration laws.

John is trying to force Congress to act on the Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement Act (H.R. 4088), bipartisan legislation aimed at strengthening border security and ensuring that employers verify their workers are legal. And he fought efforts by the Democrat-led Congress to cut funding for the Secure Fence Act and has pushed for other additional resources for federal and state authorities that will help strengthen border patrol efforts.

Above all else, John believes the success of our country depends on newcomers obeying the law, assimilating into American society by learning English, and embracing our common identity as Americans.

IMPROVING OUR CHILDRENS' EDUCATION

John believes that every child deserves a shot at a high quality education and has authored legislation to back it up.

John is a strong voice for parent choice and local control of our education dollars. On his watch as Chairman of the House Education & the Workforce Committee, Congress passed legislation bringing real reform and accountability to our schools. In fact, the No Child Left Behind Act was signed into law at Hamilton High School, a symbol of John's commitment to improving education for our children.

Boehner has also played a key role in crafting legislation providing more Americans access to higher education and job training programs. His College Access & Opportunity Act would improve the Pell Grant program by allowing students to receive Pell Grant aid year-round and repeal the federal rule that needlessly limits the amount of Pell Grant aid a student attending a very low-cost school may receive.

INCREASING ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE, HIGH-QUALITY HEALTH CARE

One of John's top priorities is putting doctors and patients back in charge of health care, not Washington politicians and bureaucrats.

As a former small business owner, John is in a unique leadership position to address this problem. He supports Small Business Health Plans that allow small businesses to pool their resources to purchase high-quality, affordable insurance for their employees. The United States Chamber of Commerce, the American Farm Bureau Federation, and the National Association of Women Business Owners have endorsed his proposal, as have hundred of Members of Congress from both parties. John also wants to broaden the array of health insurance choices available by allowing patients to purchase health plans available in other states.

SECURING OUR RETIREMENT

John has a record of making workers' retirements more secure – he led a bipartisan group of lawmakers in passing the first overhaul of our nation's pension laws in more than thirty years: the Pension Protect Act.

The Pension Protection Act fixed outdated pension rules that no longer serve the interests of workers and retirees who are counting on their savings to be there when they retire.

Now John wants to fix Social Security so we can keep our promise to tomorrow's workers and retirees. His goal is to give workers greater choice and control over their financial futures and to preserve Social Security now and for generations to come.
